Ghana's Parliamentary Crisis: Otchere Darko advocates for calm, respect for law

Accra, Ghana -  October 20, 2024 - Ghana's Parliament is on high alert as tensions rise ahead of its session on Tuesday, October 22. Prominent NPP member Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has urged lawmakers to maintain order and avoid chaos, calling for calm amidst growing political tension.

The controversy began when the Speaker declared four parliamentary seats vacant, sparking a standoff between the NPP and NDC caucuses. The NDC threatened to occupy the Majority side, despite a Supreme Court ruling that temporarily halted the Speaker's declaration.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, October 20, Otchere Darko called for calm and suggested a meeting between the two Leaders and the Speaker to agree on next steps.

“Parliament must, by all means, avoid a situation of seeming chaos and anarchy Tuesday. I suggest the two Leaders and Speaker meet before then to agree or agree to disagree on the next steps. Not long to Dec 7, let maturity be our guide and guard,” he posted.
