Galamsey: GAWU workers down tools, nationwide strike begins Oct 10
Accra, Ghana - October 9, 2024 - The General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) of TUC-Ghana has joined the growing chorus of discontent, declaring a nationwide strike starting Thursday, October 10, 2024.
This move follows the government's failure to address Organised Labour's demands on illegal mining (galamsey).
A meeting between Organized Labour and President Akufo-Addo on October 3, 2024, failed to yield a resolution, prompting GAWU to take industrial action.
The union seeks a state of emergency declaration to tackle galamsey's devastating environmental and social impacts.
