Fuel prices go up in first pricing window.
Following the launch of the first pricing window in July, Ghana's oil marketing companies (OMCs) have begun to raise petrol prices at the pump.
Shell prices a litre of fuel at GH14.80 and a litre of diesel at GH14.92. Previously, petrol was sold at GH14.60 per litre, while diesel was sold at GH14.75 per litre in June's second pricing.
Star Oil has began increasing their pricing. Currently, a litre of petrol is selling for GH13.83, up from GH13.66 in the second pricing window of June, while diesel is selling at GH14.79, up from GH13.97 in the second pricing window of June.
According to energy think tanks, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, and the Institute for Energy Security, this is due to growing international refined petroleum product prices and the Cedi's depreciation. Major market leaders, including state-owned GOIL and Total Energies, have also announced price increases.
GOIL sells fuel at GH₵14.80 per liter and Diesel XP for GH₵14.92 per liter. Total Energies now charges GH¢14.85 for petrol and GH₵14.95 for diesel, up from GH₵14.65 in the previous two pricing windows.
Prices are expected to rise in the coming months as Ghana gears up for the polls in December.
