Captain One Golf Society, Pra River Golf Links launches Shama Kids Project
Shama, Ghana - The Captain One Golf Society, in partnership with PRA River Golf Links, has officially launched the Shama Kids Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at introducing golf to vulnerable children in the Shama community.
The project seeks to identify and nurture young golf talents, ensuring the sport's growth and development in Ghana.
At the launch, Prof. George William Kofi Intsiful, Founder and owner of Pra River Golf Links, highlighted the golf course's history and announced plans to upgrade the facility to international standards.
He commended the Captain One Golf Society for their proactive approach to addressing the ageing gap in golf.
Chief Patron, Mr. Lee Mensah, emphasized the importance of training new talents for the sport's future and advised the kids to take their training seriously.
He highlighted the benefits of playing golf, including opportunities for personal growth and development.
Competition Secretary, Mr. Solomon Harvey encouraged the girls to excel in the sport and hinted at plans to expand the project nationwide.
“We have been organising our own tournament which includes the kids. And hopefully next year we will have one and by then you would have known the basics to compete.
‘’As you know, golf trains you to be punctual. We also get health benefits when we play golf,” he stressed.
Renowned golfer, Kofi Instiful, will lead the training of young participants in the Captain One Golf Kids Project at the Pra River Golf Links.
Ayishatu Aminu, a beneficiary and ambassador of the project, shared her inspiring story, debunking the notion that golf is only for the wealthy. She emphasized that discipline, determination, and dedication are the keys to success in golf.
Ayishatu encouraged the young participants to seize the opportunity, highlighting her own experiences meeting influential figures through golf.
In a speech, President Pius Ayeh Appiah expressed excitement about the project's potential to make golf accessible to all, particularly children, and break down the perception of golf as an elite sport.
Appiah pledged continued support for the project, appealing to organizations and individuals to join the initiative.
Following the launch, the young participants received introductory golf lessons, covering basic techniques, equipment, and beginner-friendly tips.
The Shama Kids Project will provide training and mentorship to kids from the local community, paving the way for a brighter future in golf.
