Alan Kyerematen condemns detention of Democracy Hub protesters
Accra, Ghana - Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen has condemned the detention of young protesters who demonstrated against illegal mining (galamsey).
At a September 29 press conference, Kyerematen criticized authorities for their "unlawful and unconstitutional" treatment.
Kyerematen questioned the Ghana Police Service's handling, citing unfair charges and denial of basic rights.
He also slammed the judiciary's refusal to grant bail, labeling it "abuse of judicial discretion." Kyerematen urged Attorney General Godfred Dame to discontinue the case.
The ARC leader expressed solidarity with the youth, praising them as "heroes of our time." He pledged to fight alongside them to restore their rights and end galamsey.
Kyerematen criticized the NPP and NDC governments for failing to address illegal mining and environmental destruction. He linked the protests to systemic failures, including the government's inability to provide jobs and hope.
“It is beyond my wildest imagination how this happened,” He stated.
"Let it not be said that our generation stood by unconcerned as the dark clouds of chaos and anarchy began to gather in our beloved country,” he cautioned."
“Do not be dismayed; there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he encouraged them.
“Together, we will win, and Ghana will rise again,” he declared, his words resonating with the hope of a brighter future for the youth of Ghana," he added.
