AFCON 2025Q: Otto Addo cautious ahead of Angola clash
Kumasi, Ghana - Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has sounded a note of caution ahead of Ghana's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener against Angola on Thursday September 5, admitting that the Palancras Negras pose a significant threat to his team's ambitions.
With Ghana seeking to preserve their perfect record in opening games, Addo is acutely aware of the challenge that lies ahead, citing the narrow margin of their previous 1-0 victory over Angola in Kumasi.
As the two teams prepare to clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, Addo is urging his players to remain vigilant and focused, warning that complacency could prove costly against a resilient Angolan side.
"I’m convinced that we can beat them, but it won’t be easy. And also we had some injuries, but I think the squad is ready," he said at Wednesday's presser.
"We have a lot of players who can match up. And surely on this way, I wish all the players who are injured, Kamaldeen, Gideon Mensah, Alexander Djiku and the rest so we have more which are injured and I wish them a speedy recovery and then we see how the season goes when they come back."
The game against Angola is scheduled for a 16:00 GMT kickoff.
