VRA meets Interior Ministry and Security agencies over Akosombo dam Spillage

The Volta River Authority (VRA) led by Ing. Ken Arthur, Deputy Chief Executive in Charge of Services have met with Ghana's Minister of Interior Henry Quartey and members of some security agencies to discuss emergency plans over the annual spillage of the Akosombo dam.

This conference comes as the Volta River Authority begins its sensitization campaign in downstream towns south of the Akosombo Dam, which was impacted by the dam leak last year.

So far, the VRA has held sensitization workshops with traditional authorities, religious leaders, and opinion leaders in the North and South Tongu districts.

Ing. Ken Arthur

Ing. Arthur presented the concerns and emphasized that stakeholder involvement and community sensitization have become required because to the wet season and the potential volumes.

He indicated that the precautionary spill may become necessary if the volume of rain increases, despite the fact that the current level of water in the Akosombo Dam is lower than it was at the same time last year.

Henry Quartey, Minister of Interior

Henry Quartey, Minister of the Interior, proposed broadening the scope of contacts to include all essential groups and individuals who may be affected by potential spills.
