Legon Botanical Gardens to undergo renovations under UG Management

Accra, Ghana - October 13, 2024 - The University of Ghana has announced that it will take over the management of the Legon Botanical Gardens, ensuring the facility remains a public green space.

This move follows the resolution of a longstanding contractual dispute with Mulch Company Limited, the previous management company.

Mulch Company Limited had earlier announced the permanent closure of the gardens by October 30, 2024. However, the University has stepped in to preserve the gardens, citing its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.

According to a University statement, the gardens will undergo necessary repairs and renovations before reopening to the public. The institution aims to enhance the space as a "place of beauty, learning, research, and recreation."

The takeover follows a protracted legal battle between the University and Mulch Company Limited. The company had managed the gardens since 2009 but allegedly failed to fulfill its contractual obligations.
