Nkwanta Clashes: Police, MillitaryTroops Deployed to Quell Deadly Chieftaincy Dispute
Nkwanta, Ghana - 17 Jan, 2025 - A joint team of police and military personnel has been deployed to Nkwanta in Ghana's Oti Region to quell violence sparked by a chieftaincy dispute according to Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
At least three people have been killed and several others injured in the clashes, which erupted on Wednesday, January 15, and continued into the following day. The situation remains volatile, with reports of intermittent gunfire.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu in a post on his X account (formerly Twitter) revealed that security forces were sent to the area on the night of January 16 to restore calm. Reinforcements are expected to be deployed to maintain law and order in Nkwanta.
