Mortuary Workers in Ghana to begin Indefinite Strike over unresolved grievances on Nov 28

Ghana's mortuary services are bracing for a nationwide disruption as mortuary workers prepare to embark on an indefinite strike. The industrial action, set to commence on November 28, follows a breakdown in negotiations between the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) and relevant authorities.

At the heart of the dispute are longstanding grievances over poor working conditions, inadequate salaries, and insufficient resources. Despite repeated calls for action, MOWAG claims that authorities have shown a lack of commitment to addressing these concerns.

The strike is expected to have far-reaching consequences, potentially affecting funeral arrangements and bereaved families across the country. MOWAG has instructed its members in both public and private facilities to halt operations indefinitely, pending a resolution to the impasse.

In a statement, MOWAG emphasized its willingness to engage in dialogue, urging authorities to take immediate steps to address the outstanding issues.

“We hope that even at this late stage, we can still resolve our differences through open and productive discussions,” parts of the statement read.
