I will go into full-time farming upon retirement - President-elect Mahama

President-elect John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to agriculture, revealing plans to devote more time to his farming pursuits upon retirement.

In an exclusive visit to his farm in Yapei and Busunu, Savannah Region, Mahama showcased his thriving agricultural enterprise, which has diversified into crop farming and livestock.

“Farming is my life. I love it, and I’m sure if I didn’t go into politics, I would have been a full-time farmer,” he revealed.

“In any case, when I retire, after this stint, of course, I’m going to go into full-time farming. If you want to see me, you’ll have to come to the farm.”

Mahama's farm has made significant strides, with a growing livestock population and a bountiful harvest of maize and soybean. The president-elect attributed the farm's success to his dedication and hard work.

As president-elect, Mahama's focus on agriculture is expected to drive economic growth and development in Ghana. His administration plans to prioritize agricultural development, with a focus on increasing food production and improving livelihoods for farmers.

Mahama's commitment to agriculture has been welcomed by stakeholders in the sector, who see his personal experience and passion as a major asset in driving agricultural growth in Ghana.

“We started with 300 goats and other small ruminants, and now we’ve grown to almost 500, with another 200 animals added recently. It’s looking positive,” he said, noting plans to expand into sheep and cattle farming.

“This is not just a business; it’s a way of life for me. It’s therapeutic and fulfilling to work on the farm,” Mahama added, showcasing his dedication to agriculture as both a passion and a means of contributing to Ghana’s food security,'' he added.
