83% Turnout Recorded in Special Voting Exercise - EC
Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) has given assurances that it is fully prepared for the country's upcoming general elections on December 7.
According to the EC chairperson, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, all necessary materials and equipment have been distributed to the regions in adequate quantities, eliminating any concerns about shortages stating that ; “we don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country”.
The commission has also reported a significant turnout in the special voting exercise, with the lowest participation rate standing at 83%. Furthermore, over 18 million registered voters, representing 55% of the total population, are expected to cast their ballots on December 7.
Addressing what she termed as her last engagement with the media before the 2024 election day on December 7, 2024, Jean Mensa stated that in a bid to ensure transparency and accuracy in the electoral process, the EC has accredited nearly 10,000 media personnel to cover the elections.
Mrs. Mensa urged journalists to utilize their platforms to provide citizens with factual and unbiased information, emphasizing the importance of truthful reporting.
“Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully,” she said.
Additionally, the commission stated that they have accredited over 20,000 local and international observers to monitor the electoral process. These observers have been provided with maps to facilitate their access to polling centers across the country.
