Accra, Ghana - 04 Feb, 2025 - Newly appointed Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has outlined her key priorities for the country's capital city, with security and sanitation topping the agenda.

In her inaugural meeting with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on February 3, Ms. Ocloo announced plans to revive the Regional Sanitation Day and introduce an award scheme to recognize the cleanest city, as part of efforts to improve sanitation in Accra.

The minister also pledged to support local authorities in becoming self-sufficient, in line with the government's "Resetting Agenda". This will involve empowering Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to boost revenue generation and promote sustainable development at the local level.

Furthermore, Ms. Ocloo emphasized the importance of collaborative governance, stating her intention to work closely with traditional leaders, religious organizations, and other stakeholders to deepen decentralization and participatory governance.

“I will closely work with traditional authorities, religious organizations, and other stakeholders to deepen decentralization and enhance participatory governance,'' she stated.

''MMDCEs and districts will be empowered to improve revenue generation to ensure sustainable development at the local level.

“Strengthening of the Zonal and the area councils will continue to monitor and provide technical backstopping to MMDAs as mandated by the Local Governance Act 936'', she added.
