Partisan Claim to National Assets: A Day of Shame
The question in this article is why do politicians feel that national assets belong to them when they are in power?
There appears to be entrenched interests and incendiary rhetorics from the two key political parties. Obviously, there appears to be partisan claim to national assets while at the same a forgetfulness that governments change.
His Excellency the former President J.A Kuffuor did all the works to initiate the construction of the NI motorway. All praise goes to Mr Gentle Giant. Fortunately, it was under the late president Mills that the motorway was completed. What did Asomdwehene do? He magnanimously invited President Kuffuor to be a significant part of the commissioning of the NI. Mills gave credit to Kuffuor.
This act was a good example of nation building.
As Ghanaians go to the polls on December 7, it behooves us all to ponder over the unity of our nation. The politics of hatred and vindictiveness is never the best way to move Ghana forward. We cannot politicise national assets.
No one party must lay any partisan claim to national assets. The Bank Square is not a property of any political party no matter what role a current government played in the construction of the magnificent storey building. More importantly, the BoG has no political colour.
Politicians must be reminded that party goes and party comes. However, the bank of Ghana remains a national asset.
