I have seen him wear NPP-branded shirts - Asiedu Nketia slams National House of Chiefs President
Asante Akim Central, Ghana - Nov 11, 2024 - National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has launched a scathing attack on Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, accusing him of abandoning neutrality and campaigning for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in Odumase, Asante Akim Central Constituency, on Sunday, November 10, Asiedu Nketia questioned Gyebi's credibility, citing his alleged support for the NPP. "How can a leader of traditional authorities speak on the ills of the governing party if he openly supports them?" Asiedu Nketia asked.
The NDC Chairman claimed Gyebi has compromised tradition and culture by wearing NPP-branded attire while campaigning in his hometown. Asiedu Nketia also criticized Gyebi's silence on government criticism, stating, "We have no leader to speak to the ills in the country."
“Have you heard or read any statement from him criticising the government? Now, we have no leader to speak to the ills in the country. The National House of Chiefs should be in the position to resolve the issues going on in parliament.”
“He [Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II] claims to be the president of the National House of Chiefs. I’ve seen him wear NPP-branded shorts and shirts campaigning for the party in his hometown.
Asiedu Nketia emphasized the National House of Chiefs' role in resolving parliamentary impasses, urging Gyebi to maintain neutrality. This development has sparked tension ahead of the 2024 elections, with concerns about the National House of Chiefs' credibility and democratic process.
