Accra, Ghana - Denmark Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Norring, has cautioned against the use of hate speech in the run-up to Ghana's presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7.

In an interview with Lead News' Florence Kyei on December 3, Ambassador Norring emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of all individuals and groups, including minorities and political opponents.

''We of course support freedom of speech but there is a limit to how you use your speech against individuals or minorities, LGBTQ, or anybody else, Fulani, one Political Party lashing out hate speech against the other, which is totally uncalled for,'' Ambassador Norring said.

''Again, Hate speech is totally uncalled for. it only serves one purpose and that it to raise the level of tension,'' he added.

The ambassador's comments come as Ghana prepares for a highly competitive election, with 13 presidential candidates vying for the top spot. The elections will also determine the composition of the country's parliament.

Ambassador Norring's warning against hate speech is seen as a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining a peaceful and respectful electoral process. The international community is watching closely as Ghana prepares for the elections, and the ambassador's comments are expected to resonate with voters and politicians alike.
