Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta Sues National Security Operatives for Trespassing
Ken Ofori-Atta is a former Finance Minister of Ghana

Accra, Ghana - 12 March, 2025 - A lawsuit has been filed by former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta against National Security operatives for allegedly storming his Cantonments residence in Accra on February 11, 2025.

The incident involved approximately 12 individuals, including military and police personnel, who entered the property without prior notice or consent.

According to the statement of claim, Mr. Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical treatment at the time of the incident. His domestic staff reported that the team conducted an extensive search of the premises, including private spaces, without presenting a warrant or explaining the purpose of the search.

The lawsuit, filed at the High Court, names two senior police officers, DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, as defendants. Mr. Ofori-Atta claims the raid caused severe trauma to his domestic staff and damaged his reputation both domestically and internationally.

The plaintiff alleges that the raid was not only trespassory but also invasive of his privacy rights, adding that a member of the raiding team reportedly filmed the entire operation using a cell phone, further exacerbating the breach of privacy.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is seeking several remedies, including:

- Declaration of Unlawful Actions: A declaration that the defendants' actions were unlawful
- Damages for Trespass and Breach of Privacy: Damages for trespass and breach of privacy
- Perpetual Injunction: A perpetual injunction to prevent further interference with his property and privacy rights
- Aggravated Damages and Costs: Aggravated damages and costs

The defendants have been commanded to enter an appearance within eight days of being served with the writ.
