'Addison Had Secret Devices in his home to Monitor Bank of Ghana Operations' - Festus Aboagye Alleges

Accra, Ghana - 23 March, 2025 - A shocking allegation has rocked Ghana's financial circles, as Retired Colonel Festus Aboagye has accused former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, of installing electronic surveillance devices in his home to spy on the Bank's operations.T
his bombshell claim comes on the heels of a contentious search of Dr. Addison's residence by National Security operatives, which has sparked widespread controversy.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin condemned the operation, alleging that personal belongings, including jewelry and money, were stolen. However, Rtd. Col. Aboagye insists that the search was justified, citing the intelligence gathered on Dr. Addison's alleged surveillance activities.
Speaking to TV3, Aboagye revealed that the destruction of Dr. Addison's CCTV camera was actually the removal of a "monitoring wire" used for surveillance. He emphasized that the state did not authorize Dr. Addison to mount surveillance on the Bank of Ghana's premises.
“What is coming out, unless contested, is that there was intelligence, I’m speaking on what it is that I have checked, that former Governor Addison when I got social information, checked from a source within National Security, certain individuals within the National Security, that he has wired his place with what we call back door electronic devices.
“Since then I have received multiple versions of it. He had devices in his house, wired to the Bank of Ghana, which enabled him to monitor what was going on. Monitoring is a very diplomatic word, this is spying, this is surveillance.
“And the state has not authorised anybody in the form of a former BoG to mount surveillance on the premises of BoG. The naked wireless was wired into devices. As far as I’m concerned, that was the objective of that search.”
Dr. Addison, who served as Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2017, has yet to officially respond to these allegations. His tenure focused on economic development, monetary policy formulation, and macroeconomic surveillance.
