Accra, Ghana - Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has called on Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) to take immediate action to address concerns and restore trust among stakeholders ahead of the upcoming elections.

The envoy's plea comes amidst opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other groups' concerns over voter register irregularities and other issues.

Speaking at the inaugural Diplomatic Honours ceremony in Accra, Dr. Ibn Chambas stressed the importance of transparency in the electoral process.

He emphasized that the EC can still regain the confidence of political parties and stakeholders by taking concrete steps to ensure openness and accountability.

“It is not too late to work to win the trust and confidence of all parties and stakeholders in the electoral process”, he stated.

“Specifically, ensuring the publication of polling station results on the website of the Electoral Commission is one measure that will greatly advance and enhance the credibility and transparency of the process, and this will sound like music to some of our partners here who have made this recommendation time and again," he added.

The AU envoy's intervention aims to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process in Ghana.
