Ghana Water Ltd targets 100% coverage by 2030
Accra, Ghana - In a bold move towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has set its sights on attaining 100% water coverage across the country by 2030.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Stanley Martey, Chief Manager of Public Relations and Communications at GWL, revealed the company's ambitious plans to expand its operations nationwide, ensuring that every corner of Ghana has access to reliable and clean water.
This goal aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water by 2030.
According to Martey, GWL has already achieved an impressive 80% water coverage across the country, positioning itself for success in reaching its 2030 target.
With this commitment, GWL is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of millions of Ghanaians, improving health, hygiene, and overall well-being.
“We have our development plan to meet 100 percent [water] access by 2030 and even per the SDG goals, we are supposed to meet 100 percent access by 2030 and it is in line with our government’s vision and it is also in line with our company’s target and vision, so we are working with that," he stated.
“You will remember that in 2020, we cut sod for a number of treatment plants to be built and they are all in line to ensure that we can meet the targets of 2030 and so far, coverage is around 80 percent and with the development plan in place, we are sure that baring any unforeseen circumstances, we should be able to meet the target of 100 percent by 2030," he added.
