39 Democracy Hub protesters remanded for two weeks, face multiple charges

Accra, Ghana - Thirty-nine Democracy Hub protesters were remanded in custody following their court appearance, with one additional protester still at large due to a bench warrant issued for failing to appear in court despite being aware of the proceedings.

This brings the total number of protesters brought to court to 40.


Current Status of Protesters:

- Twenty-eight in Police Custody: Pleaded not guilty to charges 
- Eleven in Prison Custody: Pleas yet to be taken; lawyer requested adjournment to study charges.

Charges Against Protesters:

- Conspiracy to commit a crime (unlawful assembly)
- Unlawful assembly
- Causing unlawful damage
- Offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace
- Assault on a public officer
- Defacement of public property


The case has been adjourned until October 8, 2024.
