Ghana risks facing a full-blown cholera epidemic, take action before you handover - Minority tells Gov't
Ghana's Western Region is grappling with a worsening cholera outbreak, with 123 cases and 15 deaths recorded as of December 17, 2024. The situation is further complicated by the infection of 15 health workers who were treating patients.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, in a press briefing lambasted the government for its handling of the crisis, describing it as "gross negligence."
Akandoh warned that Ghana risks facing a full-blown cholera epidemic if the government fails to take immediate and decisive action.
“It is deeply concerning that what could have been a minor cholera outbreak has instead exposed the fragility of our healthcare system. This outbreak, which should have been controlled weeks ago, continues to escalate due to systemic neglect and inefficiency,'' he added.
