Accra, Ghana - 24 March, 2025 - A deepening corruption scandal has engulfed Ghana's National Service Scheme (NSS), with the country's Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, revealing that former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, attempted to bribe a Member of Parliament to suppress media coverage.

The NSS has been plagued by allegations of ghost names and corruption, prompting a thorough investigation by the Office of the Attorney General and the ORAL team.

Dr. Ayine announced at a press briefing today that investigators have made significant headway in uncovering the truth behind the National Service Scheme scandal, with eight suspects already questioned and several providing damning testimony.

“Because these matters are still under investigation, I can confirm that the investigation will conclude in the National Service and the Sky Train Scandal by the middle of April for the prosecution to begin.

According to him, the investigation has uncovered evidence that top executives of the Scheme received payments from private vendors, raising serious questions about corruption and conflict of interest.

What's even more alarming are allegations that the CEO and others bribed a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to silence the media and defend their actions.

Dr. Ayine announced that the investigation is expected to conclude by mid-April, paving the way for prosecutions to begin.

“With the National Service Scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated and a good number of them have started singing. We now have evidence of payments that were made into the accounts of the top executives of the National Service by private vendors of the scheme.

“We also have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the NSS and others paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to kill the story in the media and to defend them,” he stated.

The scandal has raised concerns about corruption and accountability within Ghana's public institutions.
