LGBTQ+ is ungodly and I can lose my life for Anti-Gay Bill - Speaker Bagbin
Alban Bagbin is Ghana's Speaker of Parliament

Accra, Ghana - 26 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has pledged to revive the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, which lapsed with the 8th Parliament in 2024.

Speaking to traditional leaders and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bagbin reaffirmed his commitment to passing the bill into law this year, emphasizing the need to safeguard Ghanaian cultural and moral values.

He expressed his willingness to make personal sacrifices to ensure the bill's passage, stating he is prepared to "lose his life for this cause."

He plans to formally request guidance from the Minister for Justice and Attorney General to advance the bill, which previously expired with the 8th Parliament in 2024.

“The LGBTQ bill was passed by Parliament, but the former president refused to assent to it, which was unconstitutional. Parliament is the authority for passing laws, not the president. That decision was wrong, and all of you punished him for that,” Bagbin remarked, referencing the actions of the previous administration.

“I am going to write to the new Attorney General and Minister for Justice for his comments so we can resend it to the new president for assent. This will not take time it will be passed this year. It is ungodly, and nobody should joke with me on this. I can lose my life for this cause,'' he added.
