Accra, Ghana - Nov 7, 2024 - A recalled parliamentary session in Ghana was adjourned indefinitely on Thursday, November 7, due to the absence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs.

The session, convened at the NPP's request to address urgent national matters, lacked the required quorum for decision-making.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus, slammed the NPP MPs' absence, citing significant financial losses to the state. He emphasized that the recall process involves substantial expenses, including travel and operational costs covered by taxpayers, which were wasted due to the NPP MPs' absence.

Forson urged citizens to recognize this incident as indicative of poor leadership and to consider it when voting in the next election. “I am deeply concerned and disturbed by what has happened and this is an abuse of the Standing Orders of the House. It is tantamount to causing financial loss to the state and we call on Ghanaians to punish them accordingly. They are short of ideas on solving the issues of the country and all that they know is dancing during their campaigns and sharing money." he stated.

The NDC leader called on voters to demand responsible leadership that respects public resources and prioritizes Parliament's efficient operation. "Let no one deceive you that the NDC is here to distract government business... We are fed up and waiting for the elections to vote out this incompetent government,'' he added.

This development highlights the ongoing tensions between Ghana's political parties and raises questions about accountability and leadership in the country's government.
