The key to making a positive impact is authentic leadership- Kofi Amoabeng

Accra, Ghana - September 10, 2024 -  A recent presentation by distinguished leadership expert and entrepreneur,  Prince Kofi Amoabeng, delivered to project managers and participants at the Project Management Institute, Ghana, has shed light on the significance of authentic leadership.

In a Facebook post, he emphasized that everyone had a purpose: to leave the world better than they found it, regardless of their position or status.

Amoabeng encouraged participants to be authentic leaders in their own spaces, making a positive impact through small actions.

The presentation concluded with a call to action, urging individuals to embody the change they wish to see in the world and contribute to building a better Ghana and Africa.

The event was organized by the Project Management Institute, Ghana, in collaboration with the Pkamoabeng Leadership Foundation, which aims to revolutionize mindsets and promote leadership excellence.

"A few weeks ago, I had the distinct honor of being invited by the Project Management Institute, Ghana, to deliver a presentation on Authentic Leadership. Leadership is a topic close to my heart, so every opportunity to discuss it is one I embrace wholeheartedly.

Here are some nuggets from what I shared with the project managers and participants:

In my nearly eight decades of life, one principle that has grounded me is respect for time and for everyone, regardless of their background. With the wisdom gained from these years, I am committed to ‘dying empty’—to give all my experiences and everything I’ve been given to the world before I leave it. I believe we are placed on this earth with a purpose: to leave the world better than we found it. And you don’t need to be a “big person” in Ghanaian parlance to do this.

It doesn’t matter whether you hold a formal position or not. You can be an authentic leader in your own space and make a difference, no matter how small.

Perhaps you are a project manager frustrated by a lack of integrity among others. Be the change by committing to doing what is right.

Maybe you are a teacher concerned about your students’ tardiness. Inspire them to change by demonstrating punctuality—arrive on time for your lessons, and you might encourage your students to do the same.

Or as a student, you can practice integrity by avoiding cheating, attending lectures on time, and submitting assignments promptly.

As a parent, you can model the behaviors you want your children to emulate by treating them with respect so they learn to respect others.

If you’re a medical professional, show genuine care for your patients and arrive at work on time to avoid making them wait. These small efforts can significantly impact their experience.

Authentic leadership isn’t about the title—it’s about the difference you make in your own space. We should all strive to be the best representation of the change we want to see in the world. Let’s all strive to embody the change we wish to see and contribute to building the Ghana and Africa we envision.
