Election Watch Ghana demands voters register release

On Monday, August 19, an advocacy group, Election Watch Ghana, convened at the Electoral Commission (EC) offices to demand the immediate release of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) to political parties.

This follows the EC's delay in publishing the provisional voter register, which is required under the Constitutional Instrument governing the 2024 election.

The delay has raised serious concerns, especially from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other parties despite prior assurances from the EC.

Mark Ewusi, Convenor of Election Watch Ghana, told the reporters outside the EC offices on Monday August 19, 2024 that the delay undermines the integrity of election process.

“We all know that per the calendar of the Electoral Commission, tomorrow is said to be the day for the exhibition and it is very prudent for political parties to get hold of the provisional register so that we can scrutinise it for the exercise tomorrow.

“Unfortunately for us, we got here and the commissioners themselves and the workers had not resumed work,” he stated.
