Cocoa Carriers end strike after meeting with management
Accra, Ghana - The Cocoa Carriers Association has called off its indefinite strike, which started on October 7, 2024, following a productive meeting with the management of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) and a representative from the Ghana Cocoa Board.
Raymond Atanga Abobiga, National Chairman of the association, confirmed to Citi News, that workers have resumed duties at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots. Management has pledged to address concerns over conditions of service within a week.
“We negotiated with our directors and COCOBOD and we concluded that we have to continue working while they sit down and reconsider our increment. So we decided to work today [Tuesday, October 8] and also expect something good from them.
“But then, when we reported for work today, the information came that I was not supposed to work but my colleagues in Kumasi persisted that if I was not working, then they were also not working so a call came from the top management, and they said, I should work.
“So right now, Tema is working, Takoradi is working, and Kumasi, we are also working. That is the current situation of the strike now,'' he stated.
